Choice Academy was born from a dream that began when its founder, Cindel Henson, was just twelve years old, growing up in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. As a young child, she experienced the love, stability, and trust that quality childcare can provide. Her family was fortunate to attend a caring in-home daycare, but she also watched her mother, an educator, work tirelessly to provide her children with the best opportunities while balancing the challenges of finding dependable childcare.

Those experiences planted a lasting question:

Shouldn’t every family have access to quality, affordable childcare choices?

That question became the foundation for Choice Academy.

With a lifelong passion for education, Choice Academy’s founder studied early childhood education, earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Texas teaching certification for Early Childhood through 4th Grade, and is currently completing a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

Her career has been dedicated to helping children, educators, and families thrive. Since joining Dallas ISD in 2012, she has served as a teacher, team leader, social-emotional learning liaison, and Early Learning Instructional Specialist. Her work has included supporting teachers, strengthening early learning practices, providing reading and math instruction, and helping schools build positive relationships with children and families.

Through years of experience in classrooms and educational leadership, she has seen firsthand that supporting children also means supporting the families who care for them.

Choice Academy was created to provide high-quality, affordable childcare choices for children while creating a welcoming place where families can feel supported, valued, and connected.

This vision extends beyond early learning. Choice Academy plans to become a community hub for families, connecting parents and community members with educational opportunities, job training, and valuable family resources through partnerships with local organizations.

We believe that when children are loved, supported, and given opportunities to learn, and when their families have the support they need, the whole community grows stronger.
